As pictured above this is what we call a plug-n-spin kit. , you will receive a complete solution that is ready to plug into most "S-shaped" tonearms. You can be up and spinning in a moment or two. While this kit if a great mid-level setup for any hifi application, we have put it together as a near "fire and forget" solution for vinyl to digital transfer operations. Just clip on the needle and set the tracking pressure per below.
PLEASE NOTE: By default this item will arrive with the cartridge pre-wired and properly bolted to the headshell. The needle does not come installed on the cartridge for secure shipping.
Once you adjust the tracking force counterweight to make sure there is not too much needle pressure on the record, you are all set. To properly set the tracking pressure, which will minimize wear n tear on both your records and the needle, you may wish to add the Ortofon tracking force gauge, found in 'Related Products' below.
How do I adjust tracking pressure and anti skate?
If you are lucky enough to have these two adjustments here's how: Move tracking force counter weight till needle suspends/hovers above record. then rotate numbers to zero. (this is zero grams pressure on record) then rotate weight AND numbers to recommended tracking pressure for your needle usually 1.5 to 3 grams is average. Then rotate anti skate to be equal. That should get you there. Basically you want the lease amount of needle pressure pushing down on the record as possible without it skipping too much or sounding bad. That will give you the longest life from your needle and records.
NOTE: Anti skate is adjusting side to side pressure WITHIN GROOVE of record. Tracking pressure is how hard the needle is pushing down inside the groove.
