The Ortofon OM5E is a coveted medium level cartridge supplied as original equipment on many finer turntables. Sure you can get cheaper entry-level cartridges, but the great thing we love about this cartridge is that you can 'try out' the Ortofon sound with an elliptical needle (not often found on entry levels), then later, if you so choose, you can upgrade just the needle to any quality level found in our 'Related Products" section at the bottom of this page. This will effectively upgrade you to a 'hybrid' type Ortofon "OM10", "OM20", "OM30" or "OM40". (Note that the OM5E is not in the "super" cartridge line currently on the market for the 10,20,30 & 40 with somewhat better cartridge based internal specs.)
Here you will find a very detailed OM5E review.

For the money spent on this cartridge, you are getting your moneys worth. If you want anything better then I would spend at least fifty dollars more on an Ortofon Red from what I am told by my local record shop owner. The bottom line with this cartridge is that you will get good sound and great tracking. It produces a great full sound. The best thing about this is its ability to track. I will say after a month of owning this Ortofon OM5E Cartridge that I am pleasantly surprised. |
