Pickering D4000 Type BLISS™ Shibata Substitute

Replaces/Substitutes:

PICKERING Stylus D4000 STEREOHEDRON
PICKERING Stylus D4000 Mk IIs
PICKERING Stylus D4000SP (Stereohedron Plus)

Used In:
PICKERING CARTRIDGES XSV/4000 XSP/4004, XSP/4004 Mk IIs, XSP/3003 Mk IIs "Sterehedron II series" etc.

FYFYI: OEM Stereohedron Pickering needles had four facets.  Two on the leading edge and two on the trailing edge of the contact area with the groove wall.  Shibata cut needles have two facets only on the leading edge so yes this is a downgrade but shibatas, originally developed in the 70s for quadraphonic records, are still still loved today for their well rounded richness and clarity.

FYI: (from Stanton Literature) - "Stereohedron Stylus Tip is a patented feature assuring greater bearing radius and more contact area with the groove and gives exceptional frequency response . . . SUPERior protection of high frequency signals in the groove . . . longer record life . . . longer stylus life . . . better tracing ability."

NOTE: Because this needle is designed for use specifically with Pickering cartridges, it can be found in numerous brands of turntables. In some cases the cartridges for this needle may be original equipment supplied with a new turntable, but was more likely selected at time of sale to complete a turntable sold without a cartridge or later as an upgrade to the original cartridge supplied by the turntable manufacturer. This needle should be matched primarily to the cartridge type not necessarily the turntable.
