402-M208-165 LP Elliptical Upgrade for Nostalgic Record Players

We commissioned a special run of diamond elliptical tipped styli for your modern nostalgic turntable. This brings you closer to 21st century performance with a modern .3 x .7 polished elliptical diamond tip. This upgrade is not available from any modern nostalgic player OEM manufacturer. This is your most economical and simplest upgrade path. It affords you a significant increase in sound quality while being more gentle on your vinyl.

NOTE: As pictured above, we now have a new version of the 793-D7. This new version has a metal shaft attached with a rubber boot. This provides increased audio performance and will not break off under the harshest of conditions. Diamond lasts about 4 times longer.
The old style is quite weak at its thinest point, as you may have already discovered. But once installed properly, the diamond tip/plastic version (793-D7) functions well.

Basically we have observed that 'all' new nostalgic or retro turntables now on the market use this needle. Please note that even though many of them are 3 speed, they only come with a needle for 33/45's (LP) you must use our 793-D3 (see below) for 78rpm only in order to not damage your 78rpm records with a modern nostalgic turntable.

CHINESE FACTORY DEFECTS ALERT:

Some nostalgic players shipped from China with a poorly made version of the cartridge for this needle that does not meet industry standards. While it does accept the originally supplied "402-M208-165" type needle from the same Chinese factory, it does not accept industry standard "793" series needles that have been around for decades. This issue is that correctly made 793 needles from us won't click into place well and tend to fall off. When you get a 793 series needle from us it will conform to industry standards and NOT fit these poorly designed versions of this cartridge. In this case the only course of action is to replace the entire cartridge with our new >>>P-188 cartridge<<< that we have carefully sourced to meet industry standards and be able to accept 793 type needles for decades to come.

793-DEM Needle

I am satisfied this needle. Under a scope it appears to be made of PCD Diamond and has a smooth, polished point. plays well. I previously purchased needles and belts for my BSR turntables and was very satisfied with their performance.

Does the job

The needle fit the Crosley model we have. It worked better than the original needle. No complaints about the quality, but I received a new player as a gift shortly after replacing the needle.

What an upgrade!

Ordered this needle for my Victrola VSC 550BT. It's one of those "vintage" style turntables, and I wasn't sure if this needle was the one, but after a brief conversation with Turntableneedles.com staff, I went ahead with the purchase. So glad I did! Was a perfect fit. I Couldn't play any of my records until I received the needle in the mail (was shipped in a timely manner, all things considered- Canada, Covid), as I didn't want the pre-loaded dagger to destroy my records (the stock needle was rated for a mere 50-hours of play time, though I wouldn't recommend using them for more than a minute). I would recommend anyone who has a "vintage" turntable to shelf their records before picking one of these baby's up... Really. I did a bunch of research, and this needle was the only one that seemed like it would fit, and be a genuine upgrade. Thank you, Turntableneedles.com, and my records thank you too.

Great sound quality, arrived quickly

I'm very happy with this needle! It came quicker than I expected, and it definitely improved the sound quality on my turntable. I got a Crosley for Christmas, and the provided needle sounded ok, but I had heard it can be damaging for your records over time, and doesn't last as long as a diamond needle. When it came, I tested out the sound by playing one of my records on the original needle, then immediately testing the same record after I switched it out for this needle. I could definitely tell the difference in sound right away. I'm no expert or audiophile, but I think this needle is definitely worth it!

Can't beat the price!

I purchased this upgrade stylus for my Jensen stereo, which is cheap and pretty much a child's toy, but this upgrade (and bigger speakers) helped with the sound. The stereo fits on a shelf, so it's convenient and works for the small space I have. Now it sounds good, too! If you're playing a clean record, the music is noise-free and clear.

This upgrade was OK. It is still just a Crosley, but I do feel better playing albums on it and knowing it is not scratching the vinyl..
