You will receive a complete solution that is ready to plug into most any "S-shaped" curved tonearm. You can be up and spinning in a few moments. Upon receipt in almost all cases, all you will have to do is:

  • Insert needle into cartridge.  It's shipped unmounted for protection during transport.
  • Perform tracking adjustment per below instructions.

ADD TO CART ERROR? Note that this product is asking you to click the black or silver headshell color AND the needle you want with your cartridge BEFORE adding this item to the cart.

For additional details and write-up, please see our AT120E page.
Note that the cartridge arrives mounted to the headshell 'well-enough' aligned but not custom precision-aligned to your specific turntable.  This means that in most cases it will work out of the box but the more discerning ear will likely want to do some additional alignment.

How do I adjust tracking pressure and anti skate?
If you are lucky enough to have these two adjustments, move tracking force counter weight until the needle hovers perfectly balanced above the record. Now rotate the dial with numbers (not the weight itself) to zero. (this is zero grams pressure on record) then rotate weight AND numbers together to the recommended tracking pressure for your needle.  Then rotate anti skate to have a setting of equal value. Basically you want the least amount of needle pressure pushing down on the record as possible without it skipping or sounding bad. That will give you the longest life from your needle and records.

NOTE: Anti skate is adjusting side to side pressure WITHIN GROOVE of record. Tracking pressure is how hard the needle is pushing down inside the groove.

If your tonearm has a height-adjustable base, make sure the arm is parallel with the record surface.

dad loved it
I realize there is no end to how high you can go in price and performance quality in audiophile heaven, but for me(fixed income limitations) this cartridge is the best I have ever used and it seems to get better as it's used.I like the plug n spin-very convenient and nice headshell.I gave one to my father for christmas and it was better than anything he had and he had a few.

This is a great sounding cartridge. I prefer it over the Shure M97xE that was using prior to this cartridge. Much more articulate. It is sounding better and better after the recommended break-in period of 100 hours. I have less than 25 hours on it so far and it is breaking in nicely. I have it mounted on a Technics SL-1700 turntable @ 1.25 grams and I am using a Yamaha CA-800 Amp. Speakers are HPM100s for (A) and HPM60s for (B). Sounds fantastic with my setup.

Great tone!
It was quite easy to install when u figured out how the stulys goes in to the cartridge. Don't use force just turn it a little to side to side and it falls in the place nicely. But when you get it placed and setup your gear..sound is amazing!! great buy..highly recommend this cartridge + Headshell. Fits like a glove. :)

I can't believe the sound!
I upgraded from the DJ cart that was included with my phono to this and couldn't believe my ears! Higher fidelity, wider soundstage, improved separation, and pops and clicks of my used redords are significantly diminished. This AT 120E is wonderful! It came attached to a headshell that is virtually identical to the one on my phono. I can't wait to hear it after it is broken-in!

Replaced the AT95E that came with my TT. Used the Cardas break-in record (really does work) and what a great sounding cart! The plug and spin kit is really convenient. For the money I think the AT120E is a real winner!!
