Audio-Technica AT120Eb + Headshell/Cartridge Plug~n~Spin Combo Kit - CURVED Tonearm

The polished "NUDE" (Natural Diamond) tip is thee secret to it's great sound. You will receive a complete solution that is ready to plug into most any "S-shaped" curved tonearm. You can be up and spinning in a few moments. Upon receipt in almost all cases, all you will have to do is:
  • Perform tracking adjustment per below instructions.

ADD TO CART ERROR? Note that this product is asking you to click the black or silver headshell color AND the needle you want with your cartridge BEFORE adding this item to the cart.

For additional details and write-up, please see our AT120Eb page.
Note that the cartridge arrives mounted to the headshell 'well-enough' aligned but not custom precision-aligned to your specific turntable. This means that in most cases it will work out of the box but the more discerning ear will likely want to do some additional alignment.

How do I adjust tracking pressure and anti skate?
If you are lucky enough to have these two adjustments, move tracking force counter weight until the needle hovers perfectly balanced above the record. Now rotate the dial with numbers (not the weight itself) to zero. (this is zero grams pressure on record) then rotate weight AND numbers together to the recommended tracking pressure for your needle. Then rotate anti skate to have a setting of equal value. Basically you want the least amount of needle pressure pushing down on the record as possible without it skipping or sounding bad. That will give you the longest life from your needle and records.

NOTE: Anti skate is adjusting side to side pressure WITHIN GROOVE of record. Tracking pressure is how hard the needle is pushing down inside the groove.

If your tonearm has a height-adjustable base, make sure the arm is parallel with the record surface.

Mr.
The AT123EB is a very good cartridge, but does require 50-100 hours of break in time before it starts to shine. Initially, I found it too bright for my liking. The high frequencies are very detailed but are emphasized more than the mid range and bass. After break in, it will sound more balanced and the bass will improve, but the tonality will still skew more to the high frequencies. The mid range is still lacking and the bass, while improving after break in, still isn't strong enough for me. It sounds really good for rock, good for jazz and jazz fusion, but I don't care for it for classical recordings. It just doesn't sound natural for classical recordings and isn't balanced across the tonal spectrum. For some recordings it sounds great, while others not so much. Overall, it is a very good cartridge with a lot of detail especially in the high treble, but a bit on the bright side. If you like that kind of sound, you'll love this cartridge. If you prefer a cartridge with a warmer sound, more totally balanced and listen to a lot of classical music, I'd recommend the Nagaoka. MP-110 for about the same price.

Great cartridge!
Excellent cart, it does have a break in period but after about 20 hours it really opens up. Now, its a Audio technical so it does sound bright. It however does give a lot of sharp detail and is worth it.. Really happy with service too..

Great buy
At first the mids and lows were weak and the highs were very bright but now after 3 months I think it has finally broken in. The mids and low end sound louder and more balanced with the highs. The tracking though has been perfect from the start. I am only using a tracking weight of 1.1 grams and this cartridge sounds excellent. Thanks to Kyle for a great recommendation.

This needle has opened up tremendously and my records never sounded better. With the shell installation was a breeze.
