This diamond tip is a complete solid diamond as found in the earth. Most needles are man-made diamond that is glued on a setting. The advantages of a complete solid piece is that the signal from the record does not get slightly degraded jumping across a glued junction. Also, occasionally, with a glued setting/mount, the glue will fail and the diamond tip falls off, potentially scratching the record. This cannot happen with a nude diamond.
