The brush! From Stanton literature:

"[the longhair brush] is independently hinged so it will not interfere with the tracking force of the stylus while its tapered nylon bristles clean the grooves....damps tonearm resonance..improves low frequency tracking...dynamically stabilizes the tone-arm system..aids in the playback of warped records."

NOTE: Because this needle is designed for use specifically with STANTON cartridges, it can be found in numerous brands of turntables. In some cases the cartridges for this needle may be original equipment supplied with a new turntable, but was also likely to have been selected at time of sale to complete a turntable sold without a cartridge or later as an upgrade to the original cartridge supplied by the turntable manufacturer. This needle should be matched primarily to the STANTON cartridge type not necessarily the turntable.

Needle/brush

The needle worked great. I did have to remove the brush. It was too stiff and caused noise. Easily to remove and problem solved.

Wonderful Stylus

I read the other comment with interest and ordered this anyway. You know, just a little heavier on the tracking force and it sounds great!! Thanks.

pflastiel is better im sorry to say

i was hoping this being a jico would be an improvment on other stanton copies,treble is very spitty and it lacks a lot of bass compared to the original,run it for around 100 hours with little improvement.

Quality

I'm not usually someone to go gonzo about a product review but I have to say this stylus was a game changer for me. This stylus sounds better than the stock Stanton, much more detail and the separation is ridiculous! The bass response is perfect, not bloated and mid frequencies are spot on to my ears.

Nice for the Price

Actually used this stylus on an old 681EEE cartridge. Not great, but at this price point, I was pleasantly surprised. Will use Turntable Needles again for other TT needs.

A couple of classics rejuvinated

Well done. The cartridges sound very nice. What I really like is the ability for us Canucks to use our cards for purchases. I have used them many times. Never a problem.

.:IMPORTANT NOTICE:. How to properly set tracking weight using the brush:

*WITHOUT DIGITAL SCALE*

Per legacy Stanton literature, if you choose to use the [one gram] brush, this "lifts" the stylus up about half a gram.

So, for example, to achieve 1.75 grams (net) at the tip, with the brush, follow these steps:

Zero balance (float) tonearm with needle assembly installed but without brush and set counterbalance scale to 0.
Set counterbalance to 1.75 grams.
Add brush
Increase counterweight to 2.25 grams.

*WITH DIGITAL SCALE*

To confirm net stylus tracking weight with the brush and a digital scale we recommend first follow the "without digital scale" procedure outlined above. When using a brush, a digital scale can only be used to confirm the total weight on the record, which is the brush force and stylus force together. Keep in mind that the brush itself weighs 1 gram.

So, to achieve 1.75 grams (net) at the tip, with the brush, follow these steps:

Using digital scale, set stylus pressure to 1.75 without the brush.
Add brush. You will now measure 2.75 grams total weight on the scale with brush. (unseen net on stylus is 1.25 at this point)
Increase counterbalance by 0.5 grams (per Stanton legacy literature) to see 3.25 on the digital scale which nets you 1.75 at the tip.
