]]> Damping Oil for Turntable Tonearm Cueing Mechanism

Is your tonearm "slamming" your stylus down too quickly on your record?


If so, then this is likely what you need. Heat, time and bad design may cause your cueing lever assembly to lose some of its fluid that is used to slow the descent of your stylus onto your vinyl. Discovered by our senior repair technician to be used as a direct factory replacement used in numerous turntables over the decades, this goo is handily applied with the narrow body syringe to fit tight spots with minimal mess however it is up to the user to determine where and how to apply but generally there is a part that acts like a piston that is pushed down by the tonearm when the lever is pulled forward.

Your syringe will come pre-filled with enough fluid for *about* 8-10 applications! so only use about 1/10th of the fluid in the syringe, then wait about 1-8 hrs for the fluid to settle down into the piston before re-installing your lifter.

Sometimes people order this for a turntable thinking we measure belts by the diameter across the circle a belt makes when laid on a table. No, this is not the case, all belts are measured by the total length. So this size is not even close to the size needed for most turntable platters. Most turntables will need a belt in the 20 to 26 inch range. please click belt measuring help.


  • Meets or exceeds OEM specs. Found in many types of equipment.
  • This belt is of recent manufacture. Original legacy belts no longer exist. If they did, they'd be too old to sell in good conscience. As far as we can tell, even if the manufacturer name was stamped on the belt, all belts supplied with original turntables were outsourced to a belt specialist manufacturer, like ours are today. Our belts are made using state-of-the-art vulcanization chemistry, forming highly crosslinked polymetric structures which ensure long-term elastic stability even under the harshest conditions.
  • Prior to installation of your new belt, the belt path should be cleaned. Here in the repair shop we would use common household rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) or a similar solution to clean the old, (often invisible) belt residue from the entire belt path, including the hub around the underside of the platter, so it doesn't contaminate the new belt. With the belt off, we would get the turntable into play condition and hold an alcohol soaked Q-tip on the side of the spinning belt motor pulley. It's amazing how much black contamination comes off from the old belt. See our belt installationpage for related details.
