- Genuine OEM quality.
- Suitable for older turntables including record changers.
- Strong carbon fiber cantilever resists harsh environments such as nursing homes and record stores.
Our BC3600L cartridge will get that old legacy turntable up n running quickly. The same cartridge has been sold with and as original equipment across dozens of brands for decades now. In the 60s, 70s and 80s, most turntables and record changers had a heavier tonearm than what is standard today. In short what this means in general is that the older your table is, the more likely it is to have a heavier tonearm unless you specifically know you have a high end turntable. So, this pickup is thee entry level cartridge for most older standard ½" mount turntables.
Application Note: Special feature cartridge for OLD legacy turntables equipped with a heavy effective mass tonearm (older tonearms are often quite heavy by today's standards). Generally intended for an S shaped tonearm that can accept a standard mount cartridge. Possibly the only newly manufactured OEM cartridge that is truly suitable for old school high mass tonearms often sporting a record changer mechanism dating back to around the 1970s.
Explanations: The headshell is the hardware attached to the end of the tonearm that is usually distinguished by the 'handle' that sticks out to the right for lifting the tonearm over to the record from the rest position. If your turntable is linear tracking it means the whole tonearm slides several inches from side to side as opposed to the standard type usually designated 'straight' or 'S shaped' which pivots on a stationary 'hub' assembly at the right rear corner of the turntable. Because this cartridge is mounted on the the headshell with two vertically mounted screws, side by side, ½" apart, it is known as a ½" mount cartridge. Other mounting characteristics are that it has 4 exposed wires in the back and is almost never found on a linear tracking turntable.
Myth: Often people think they must have a brand of cartridge that matches their turntable brand. This is totally unnecessary and often impossible to achieve these days. In fact, the vast majority of turntable manufacturers, had a third party cartridge manufacturer make the cartridge on their behalf. Also, cartridge wiring connections usually go straight to your amplifier, receiver or computer thus allowing the turntable to make no direct electrical changes to the cartridge output signal.
Suitable if a 2.5-3.5 gram tracking for is desired for these applications:
This is considered high by today's standards but is necessary for many older record players.
