This aftermarket needle is a custom use replacement for our 901 type needle. Most modern players that use this needle body type can play at 78RPM but do not include a 78RPM needle from the manufacturer. If you play 78s on the factory supplied LP needle you will get some sound but the LP needle is about 4x *smaller* than the needle for 78s so you will have a *very* sharp point digging into your 78RPM record!
If your (usually older) player only plays 33/45 speeds, this needle will allow you to play 78RPM records on a modern turntable that only plays 33 and 45RPM speeds. By using this needle to play a 78 at 45RPM you can then upload the music to your computer, and use a software program to digitally speed up the music to sound how it should at 78RPM. By having this correct 3mil tip you will have all of the available music information available to the software program.

NP-4 is discontinued by Crosley, we believe it was sapphire. It appears to be replace by the NP-7 which we presume they upgraded it to diamond. Their packaging falsely claims the NP-4 can be used on all 3 speeds for up to 1000hrs.
Our needles for Crosley etc are diamond. Sapphire needles are historically well known to last about 80-100 hrs and diamond tips last about 400-600 hrs.
