VM610xMONO Moving Magnet Mono Cartridge for Mono Vinyl LP records

This cartridge internally has  a true mono design.

New for 2025 and Beyond:

Audio-Technica AT-VMx Series: Premium Sound, Engineered for Detail

Experience Warmth and Realism in Every Note
The Audio-Technica AT-VMx series redefines high-fidelity vinyl playback with enhanced warmth, realism, and rich musical detail. As a refined evolution of Audio-Technica’s acclaimed dual moving magnet (MM) cartridges, the VMx line delivers an expansive soundstage that brings recordings to life.

Dual Moving Magnet Design for Studio-Accurate Imaging

Like all Audio-Technica MM cartridges, the VMx series mirrors the geometry of the original record-cutting head. Two precisely positioned magnets align with the left and right channels in the stereo groove, ensuring exceptional channel separation and extended frequency response. This faithful signal reproduction captures the spatial depth and dynamics of the original master.

Advanced Generator Technology for Cleaner Audio

At the heart of every VMx cartridge is a paratoroidal coil system, featuring two stacked coils per channel for superior efficiency and reduced distortion. A new center shield plate minimizes crosstalk, preserving a crisp stereo image. The coils are wound with PCUHD® (Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability) wire, enhancing signal purity for richer, more nuanced sound. Fewer coil turns improve transient response, enabling faster reaction to musical dynamics and delivering clean, lifelike audio.

Precision Stylus and User-Friendly Design

The AT-VM745xML features a nude/natural Micro Linear stylus (the same cut as Shure's MicroRidge stylus) and a strong boron cantilever for incredibly faithful audio reproduction quality at a decent price that reliably tracks the groove’s center, offering durability and amazing playback—ideal for better condition vinyl. Installation is simplified with threaded inserts in the cartridge body, requiring just two screws for secure mounting—perfect for modern tonearms. A V-cut in the flip-up stylus guard provides visual alignment guidance, making cueing safer and more precise.

*Key Characteristics of PCUHD®
  • High Purity: It is a 4N-grade material, meaning it has a copper purity of 99.99% or higher.
  • Low Oxygen: Through a unique manufacturing process using noble gases rather than gas burners, oxygen content is controlled to 5 ppm or less, which is superior to standard oxygen-free copper.
  • High Drawability: Its name comes from its extreme malleability, which allows it to be drawn into superfine wires (as thin as 0.04 mm) without breaking or including impurities.
  • Acoustic Benefits: Audiophiles use it because it is claimed to provide a more detailed soundstage, tighter bass, and improved signal clarity compared to standard stock cables.

Amazing mono cart for the price!
Was curious for a long time about how much better a mono cart would be. Settled on the M610, the price point seemed right to give it a try. All I can say is wow! In the past I have purchased 3 copies of The Dukes of Dixieland featuring Pete Fountain in search of a clean mono copy, as the stereo copy is a simulated stereo recording and just doesn't right. I never could find a mono copy in good shape. They all had excessive groove noise and a fair amount of distortion at certain times. I picked out the best visually looking record of these three and played it. I can honestly say I did not hear any distortion at all. The background noise was virtually eliminated, the clicks and pops were pretty much eliminated in all but the worst spots. Very happy with this cartridge. It is my first Audio Technica cart, and I look forward to trying one of their stero carts at some point. The sounds quality is awesome. Crystal clear highs, mids are great. I did boost a bit on the base but then again, I have smaller woofers. If you're on the fence about trying this, go for it! It's worth it IMO.
